A buyers agent, also called a buyers advocate, is a licensed professional engaged exclusively by a property purchaser to search for, evaluate, negotiate, and secure a property on their behalf, acting solely in the buyer's interest.
Unlike a real estate agent, who is legally engaged by and acts in the interest of the property seller, a buyers agent works only for the purchaser. Their role typically spans defining a client's brief, sourcing on and off-market properties, conducting due diligence, negotiating price and terms, and managing the process through to settlement. Buyers agents are especially common for investors, time-poor professionals, and interstate or overseas buyers who need local expertise and representation.
